Reeses. You really cannot go wrong with the combination of rich, gooey delicious chocolate cake and creamy peanut butter. A match made in heaven.
I didn't want to buy a box of Reeses "flavored" cake- I wanted the real thing. But I am not opposed to box cake mix in general. Having said that, this recipe couldn't be easier. All you need is:
Box of your favorite chocolate cake and chocolate frosting
Natural creamy peanut butter
Reeses mini unwrapped cups
Eggs and oil for the cake mix
Any excuse to use my new stand mixer (well new to me, gifted from my wonderful future mother in law)! Mix up your cake according to the package.
Once you've beaten it into a silky smooth mixture, heat up about half a cup of creamy peanut butter in the microwave to make it easier to spread.
Pour your cake mix into your desired pan, only filling it about half way. Then spread some of your warmed up peanut butter on top.
Then completely cover with the rest of your batter.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 30-35 mins depending on your cake pan. When you're done it should look something like this (PB tucked sneekily inside).
Look at that delicious side view! YUM.
While your cake cools, chop up those mini unwrapped Reeses cups into cute little quarters.
I only managed to eat 6 of these during this process! Oh well, I earned it!
Once your cake has cooled (The hardest part!! But so necessary, or you'll be left with drippy frosting and melted candy!) slather that puppy up with some chocolate frosting, and then generously sprinkle the Reeses pieces all over the top like so. While you're at it, generously sprinkle some into your mouth.
How cute is this? Even better with the lights out and candles lit! Needless to say, Geoffy loved it and we devoured a good portion of the cake last night.
